Gold prices increase by Tk 2,333 per bhori

Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (Bajus) has decided to reduce the price of gold in the domestic market again within a week by Tk2,041 per bhori as the price of gold is declining in the international market.

The price of each bhori of 22-carat gold ornaments will stand at Tk69,109 after reduction, reports Prothom Alo.

The new gold price will be effective across the country from Wednesday.

Bajus announced the decision on Tuesday night.

Earlier, Bajus had reduced the price of gold by Tk1,516 on 3 March. So far the price of gold has been reduced three times this year by Tk5,540.

Keeping in line with the price reduction, each bhori of 21-carat gold will cost Tk65,960, 18-carat Tk57,212 and gold acquired in traditional method will cost 46,889.

Bajus has kept the price of silver intact as each bhori of 22-carat silver will sell at Tk1,516 while 21-carat and 18-carat silver is still priced at Tk1,435 and Tk1,225 respectively. The price of silver acquired in traditional methods will remain at Tk933 per bhori.

About the price reduction, Bajus said the decision has been taken to cut the stagnation in the country's jewellers business and to take into account the needs of the consumers in light of the turbulent global economy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
