Global Entrepreneurship Week begins

Global Entrepreneurship Week was launched through a virtual ceremony on Tuesday night.

"Education, Ecosystem, Inclusion and Policy" is the theme of this year's campaign.

Various programmes will be organised based on the theme to make the two-week event meaningful, aiming to make entrepreneurship easier and scalable for anyone anywhere. 

The Edward M Kennedy (EMK) Centre in association with University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (Ulab) and The Business Standard will organise the programmes. 

The events include nine webinars and five training sessions exclusively on education, ecosystem, inclusion and policy.

"Global Entrepreneurship Week is a global event, which is being observed in 180 countries with 40,000 activities. Around 10 million people participate globally in this event," said Asif Uddin Ahmed, acting director of EMK Centre. 

The purpose of the event is to inspire millions to explore their potential as entrepreneurs while keeping connections and collaboration, he said. 

Joshua Kamp, assistant cultural affairs officer at US Embassy Dhaka, said the future of the young entrepreneurs is brighter. So, working with them and providing them with proper guideline was crucial, he said. 

"We have to work to encourage the young entrepreneurs as well as help them to build networks to avail opportunities," added Joshua.

He further said that to be successful, the boys and girls have to be provided with the same opportunities.

"They should be given leadership training in the same manner, because together we have to move ahead," he said.

Prof Imran Rahman, dean of Ulab, said Global Entrepreneurship Week would be beneficial for the young entrepreneurs.

"So, we are happy to be part of this event. Because Ulab always focuses on skill development and capacity building along with academic courses," said Prof Imran.

Shahed Latif, deputy manager (event activation) of The Business Standard, also spoke at the inaugural programme.

Sharmin Akter Shakila, entrepreneurship coordinator of EMK Centre, conducted the programme.

The campaign will end on 30 November.
