GCC mayor offers to help other cities to eradicate dengue

Jahangir Alam said he is ready to help anyone who wants to assess the chemical that was imported on a personal initiative.

Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor Jahangir Alam has imported 50 tonnes of oil-based pesticide Bentacide and offered other cities to help to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes.

Bentacide is a pyrethroid formulation Cypermethrin that is diluted with oil (diesel and kerosene) or and is used for indoor and outdoor thermal fogging operations against mosquitoes.  

Jahangir Alam said he is ready to help anyone who wants to assess the chemical that was imported on a personal initiative.

Making the announcement at a dengue awareness programme at Tongi College gate area on Sunday evening, he also expressed his willingness to provide the medicine for free to other cities including Dhaka.

“One ton of Bentacide diluted with a specific amount of kerosene will be used in 57 wards of Gazipur city,” he said.

He also vowed to work unitedly to prevent dengue in Gazipur city regardless of political orientation.
