Garment worker dies as scarf gets entangled with machine

A garment worker was killed on Friday as a loose end of her scarf got entangled with a ruler machine at a Narayanganj factory.

The deceased is identified as Rita Akhter, hailing from Panchagaram village of Kawnia upazila in Rangpur. She used to work at the MM Garments in the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone at Meghnaghat area in Sonargaon upazila.  

Police said Rita was standing near the ruler machine at the garment factory at around 10am when her scarf got tangled with the machine and she died on the spot.

Sub-Inspector of Sonargaon Police Station Jubaer Mridha said the victim's body was handed over to her family members.
