Four workers were killed in their sleep after a cargo vessel capsized in the Buriganga River in Narayanganj during the early hours of Friday.

The deceased are Lutfor Rahman, 39, Mohibullah, 60, Mostafa, 55 and Babu, 18.

"Police recovered four bodies from the engine room of the vessel. Two were rescued alive," officer-in-charge of Fatullah police station Md Aslam Hossain said.

Senior station officer of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence station at Fatullah's Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation Md Kajol Miah said, "The vessel was cleaned at Dharmaganj area of Fatullah in Buriganga River at around 2.30am. While cleaning, holes may have been created in some places. Later, when the workers fell asleep, water entered the vessel and it drowned."

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Keraniganj police station, which will be handed over to their relatives, once they arrived, Kajol added.
