Four to resign from Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association
We will submit the resignation letters by Tuesday night, said Sohel Rana who is among the four
Four members of Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association have decided to step down protesting the attack on students and teachers engaged in a movement on the campus.
They are General Secretary Sohel Rana, Treasurer Monoar Hossain Tuhin and two members Professor Mahbub Kabir and Professor Sayeed Ferdous.
Criticising the attack as heinous, Sohel Rana told The Business Standard, "We will submit the resignation letters by Tuesday night."
A faction of the agitating teachers and the students of Jahangirnagar University under the banner of "Durnitir Biruddhe Jahangirnagar" kept the VC confined to her house since Monday evening demanding her resignation.
On Tuesday afternoon, Chhatra League activists swopped on the protesters and dispersed them, leaving at least 20 injured.
The university authorities on Tuesday closed down Jahangirnagar University for indefinite period in the face of protests over the past few days. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting.
The students were asked to vacate halls by 4.30pm Tuesday afternoon.
Later, Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam alleged that the protesting students and teachers who have been demanding her resignation are affiliated with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic Chhatra Shibir politics.
