The family of slain Taukirul Islam, the former president of Lohagara Bar Aulia Degree College Chhatra League (BCL), held a press conference at Chattogram Press Club on Monday noon, demanding justice for his murder.
The family urged the law enforcement authority to re-investigate the final report submitted by Sub-Inspector Md Suruzzaman Sarker, a Bhairab Railway Police station official and also the investigating officer of the case.
During the press conference, they also demanded that the real murderers should be brought to book after a proper investigation.
Ayesha Begum, the mother of slain Taukir, broke down in tears during the press conference.
She said that Taukir was stabbed to death on a moving train in the Tongi area on 31 August 2014 while returning from a BCL rally in Dhaka.
She added that this was a pre-planned murder because the accused Amin gang created the opportunity by starting an argument, subsequently stabbing him on the train.
She also said that a case had been filed at the Gazipur Judicial Magistrate Court against 22 people who were allegedly involved in the murder. Their names and addresses were provided as well. The court ordered Bhairab Railway Police Station to investigate the case.
But the investigating officer of the case submitted a final report, after being fed misleading information by the accused, she alleged.
Ayesha Begum also claimed that the investigating officer had also provided inconsistent information with regards to the witnesses in the case.
The investigating officer periodically took money from the family, claiming that the funds would be spent on arresting the accused, she claimed.
Khairunnesa, sister in law of Taukir, read out a written statement on behalf of his mother. His elder brother Mohammad Alamgir was also in attendance.
