Senior defense officials attached to the Bangladesh Mission, from around 20 countries, have visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

They made the visit on Thursday morning in order to get an idea about the livelihood of Rohingyas living there, and know about their intention regarding repatriation, said sources close to the matter.

During the visit, the members of the team spoke to Rohingya people on various issues, but did not attend any media events.

The officials of USA, China, India, Russia, and Japan Missions in Dhaka were a part of the team.

During the visit, they also exchanged their views with on-duty Bangladeshi officials at the refugee camps.

Abul Mansur, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, confirmed the visit of foreign mission officials to the Rohingya refugee camps.

After visiting the Ukhiya camps, the members of the team visited the Rohingya camps at the zero-line in Ghundhum union in Naikhongchari upazila, Bandarban, sources said.

Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.1 million Rohingya refugees, who took shelter in Bangladesh since August 2017, after being persecuted in their motherland Myanmar.
