44,000 tilapia fish died in the incident

Miscreants poisoned fish – worth around Tk15 lakh – to death, in a pond at Namapara village in Mymensingh on Thursday night.

It is believed that someone scattered poison at Twaki Fish Farm yesterday night. Around 44,000 tilapia fish died of the poisoning.

The farm's owner, Matiur Rahman Sakhawat, estimated the market value of the fish at around Tk15 lakh.

Azizur Rahma, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station visited the scene after being informed of the matter. He said a general diary has been filed in regard to the incident. Legal action will be taken after the matter is investigated.

Matiur said, "There can be enmity between people. However, what kind of enmity can there be with fish? I thought I would sell the fish on Eid, but everything ended in just one night."

Locals have demanded the person involved in the incident be found and brought under the law.
