The first phase of 57th Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslim community after Hajj, is all set to begin on Friday, January 10 in Gazipur Tongi.
All-out security measures have been taken by the government as thousands of devotees have started to gather on the bank of River Turag to participate in the first phase of the religious congregation from January 10-12.
"We have taken adequate security measures for Muslim devotees in and around the Ijtema ground," Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) KM Ariful Haque told BSS.
"Vehicular movement on roads connecting to the Ijtema grounds will be controlled during the Akheri Munajat," he added.
The second phase of the Bishwa Ijtema will begin from January 17.
However, on the day of Akheri Munajat, on January 12, movement of all conveyance on different roads will be halted from 4am to 2pm.
The road from Tongi Bridge to Bogra, Tongi station road intersection to Mirer Bazar and Munnu gate to Kamarpara will be closed during the Akheri Munajat.
Tabligh Jamaat has been organising the congregation at the venue since 1967.
In 2011, Tabligh split the Ijtema into two phases, dividing the participation of the people of 64 districts, to reduce pressure on the venue and ensure better management.
