A huge fire broke that broke out at a slum in the capital's Kalyanpur area on Friday night has been brought under control. 

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard Fire Service control room duty officer Ershad Hossain said, "At least 12 shops adjacent to the area and 70 shanties have been burnt in the fire."

Two fire fighters, who were injured while extinguishing the fire, have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. They are in critical condition.

According to fire service officials, the fire started around 10:03 pm. On information, nine firefighting units rushed to the spot to douse the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
