A fire broke out in Sylhet-bound Kalni Express train in Brahmanbaria on Saturday afternoon while it was coming from Dhaka.

Sources at Railway police said that no one got injured in the fire incident.

"The fire started in the place that connected 'Ta' and 'Tha' compartment of the train. The passengers got panicked. But it was possible to douse the fire before it spread," Munna, an official of the train told The Business Standard.

"The fire originated due to the defected cable of the power car. The rubber in the place connecting two compartments caught fire," Md Sakiul Azam, Akhaura Railway Police Station's officer in charge said.

"The train stopped at Ajampur Railway Station for some times for inspection. It left for Sylhet a little after 6pm," he added.
