Fire gutted a jute warehouse in Khulna's Dighlia upazila.

The fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday at Abdus Sattar's jute warehouse.

No one knows how the fire tore through the jute warehouse at around 11am yesterday, said local sources.

When informed, a unit of Dighlia Fire Service rushed to the spot. After three hours of trying, they could tame the flames.

"To settle an old score, someone had set my warehouse on fire," alleged Abdus Sattar, the warehouse owner.

"My warehouse, as well as raw jute worth around Tk10 lakh, were burnt to ashes."

Dighlia Fire Brigade Station Officer Mohammad Qayemuzzaman said the warehouse had no electricity connection which makes the incident mysterious.

"Our firefighters went to the spot and could bring the fire under control after three hours. And raw jute worth more Tk2 lakh could be recovered. The cause of the fire can be known when the investigation is done."

Dighlia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monjur Morshed Bhuiyan said, "The firefighters could bring the fire under control at around 12:30pm. And we are trying to unravel the cause of the fire."
