Gazipur factory fire doused

The fire that broke out at Gazipur refrigerator factory has been doused, confirmed Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service Mamunur Rashid.

A team of 18 fire service units managed to tame the blaze around 2:15pm on Friday, after fire broke out at the sixth floor of Minister High-Tech Park Ltd building around 7am in the morning.

The fire later spread to an adjacent six-storey building after the sixth and fifth floors belonging to Myone Electronics was gutted.

The cause behind the fire is yet to be known, said sources concerned.

Gazipur district administration has formed a six-member committee led by acting additional district magistrate Shafiullah (ADC-Education) to probe the cause of the fire. The committee has been asked to submit a report within seven working days, said Gazipur Deputy Commissioner S M Tariqul Islam.

"The building did not have adequate number of fire alarms and fire dousing equipment. A notice in this regard was sent to the building authorities around three weeks ago. Regular fire drills were also not conducted at the building," said Motalib Mia, assistant inspector-general at the Department of inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE).

Chairman of Myone Electronics and Minister High-Tech Park Ltd MA Razzak Khan said he had no idea how the fire broke out.

Various electronics home appliance was stored on the sixth floor. But I do not have any idea about the total worth, said KMG Kibria, company head of media.
