A fire broke out at 418-megawatt Bibiyana Power Plant in Habiganj's Nabiganj upazila on Sunday morning.

According to sources, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the DS plant of the power facility.

On information, fire fighting teams from Moulvibazar and Osmaninagar rushed there and brought the blaze under control around 9.30am.

Tarul Islam, manager of the power plant, said the steam turbine of the power plant has remained closed following the incident.

Meanwhile, 250-megawatt electricity, produced through a gas turbine, is being provided to the grid.

"It is being expected that the steam turbine will be operational within the next two to three days. Once operational, it will be possible to provide 133-megawatt electricity to the grid," he added.

However, the amount of losses could not be possible to estimate yet, he added.
