A Jhenaidah farmer, who helped a mentally deranged pregnant woman, has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and got help from her.

Farmer Amjad Ali is a resident of Mayadharpur village of Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah. A few weeks ago, he noticed a mentally deranged pregnant woman who was facing untold sufferings in the Kolabazar area of the upazila.

Keeping the sense of humanity above all else, he took the 23-year old woman to his home and started taking care of her with the help of his family.

Amjad was already struggling to bear the expenses of his family as he works as a day labourer, and his only son, a construction worker, has been lying ill after sustaining injuries from a road accident six months ago.

Despite his own sufferings, he didn't refrain from being humane to a distressed woman.

The issue came to light through a media report and drew the attention of the prime minister.

The exemplary and heartening incident touched the heart of the PM and prompted her to direct the authorities to help the family.

As per her orders, the local authority got the woman admitted to the Upazila Health Complex where she gave birth to a baby girl on October 2.

Besides, a battery-run rickshaw-van was given to Amjad so that he can easily support himself and his family.
