About one hundred Workers of Eton Fashion Limited – a garment industry based in Dhaka – protested demanding dues and compensation on Wednesday as the company suddenly announced shutdown.

Lily Akhter, a worker of the factory, claimed that about 800 people work in the company. She said that the authorities did not inform them beforehand about the closing.

Police later intervened and control the situation by assuring the workers that they will bring the company authority at the factory ground on April 25 to attend a meeting with the workers.

When asked, BGMEA said that Eton Fashion has already disbursed the wages of its workers for the month of March 2020.

As the company presently has no order, they have provided a shutdown notice as per the Section 20(Retrenchment) under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006, BGMEA commented.
