A Dhaka court has placed Dipu, bodyguard of Haji Selim's son Erfan Selim, on 3-day remand in a case filed over the murder attempt on a navy official.

The court granted the remand Tuesday when police produced him before the court with a 7-day remand plea, reports Somoy TV.

Police also sought court's permission to interrogate Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Jahid in remand, said Dhanmondi Police Station officer-in-charge Ikram Ali.

Erfan Selim is the No.30 ward councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

On Sunday evening, Erfan assaulted a navy officer and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in Dhanmondi area after the official's motorcycle collided with Erfan's car.

The military officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday morning accusing the lawmaker's son and others.

Following the case, RAB conducted a drive at Haji Selim's residence and arrested Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam on Monday.

Later, a mobile court sentenced Erfan and his driver to jail for one year for illegally having liquor and possessing walkie-talkies.
