Physical Protection System (PPS) of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project of Tk3,449 crore got nod from the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting at National Economic Council conference room in the capital.

The economic council approved six projects at an associated cost of total Tk4447.76 crore, said the Planning Minister MA Mannan while briefing the press after the meeting.

The government will provide Tk4439.86 crores from its own fund to implement these projects and implementing agencies will bear the expense of remaining Tk7.9 crore from their fund, he said.

The minister said, PPS project will ensure physical security for the Rooppur nuclear power plant and maintain a protected environment to produce electricity safely.

Last week, Ecnec approved a project involving Tk1,711 crores to provide nuclear security to the power plant.

The total expenditure on the security of the country's first ever nuclear power plant will reach Tk5,160 crore.

"The project aims to mitigate design-related and other threats, and to manage sensitive information on cyber security," said MA Mannan at the briefing.

The major activities to be implemented under the project include acquisition and development of land, procurement of technical equipment, and construction for the physical protection system.

Among other projects, the Ecnec approved the proposal on extending the timeline for constructing Parjatan Bhaban.
