BERC has cut the price of LPG from Tk119.94/kg to Tk111.26/kg

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of the 12-kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sold by private operators by Tk104.

The BERC cut the retail price of LPG from Tk1,439 to Tk1,335 per 12kg cylinder, VAT included, according to a BERC press notification issued on Thursday.

The notification said the LPG price had been reduced to Tk111.26 from Tk119.94 per kg, resulting in a price drop of Tk11.92 per kg, including VAT.

The new tariff came effective from Thursday 6pm.

The LPG cylinder price cut comes following a fall in the price of propane and butane – the component raw materials for LPG – set by the Saudi contract price.

Saudi Arabian company Aramco, publishes the price of these two components of LPG every month, known as Saudi Cargo Price (CP). BERC adjusts the price of LPG in the country based on this Saudi CP.

The Saudi contract price of propane and butane has gone down to $850 and $860 per ton respectively, the BERC press release added.

The price of Autogas used for motor vehicles has also gone down from Tk67.02 per litre to Tk62.21 per litre.

However, the price of LPG produced by state-owned companies remains the same as the cost of production has not changed.

Earlier in April, the BERC raised the retail price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder to Tk1,439 from Tk1,391.
