Low-cost electricity generation underscored

Ahmad Kaikaus, senior secretary to power division, has underscored the need for low-cost electricity generation.

"We will continue our effort to provide energy for all at a low cost," Kaikaus said.

Businessmen suffered a lot in the past due to power shortage. The present power situation has played an important role in creating the business-friendly environment in the country, he added.

He was addressing a workshop titled "Power Generation and Regional Stability" at the Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Saturday.

Expressing satisfaction over the excess capacity in power generation, the secretary said the situation has brought happiness to businessmen.  They can now invest more in setting up new factories.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission and Bangladesh Power Management Institute jointly organised the workshop on Saturday.

Kawser Amir Ali, general manager of Power Development Board, presented a keynote paper at the programme.
