Endangered gharial rescued

The Forest Department rescued a baby gharial which got trapped in the nets of fishermen in Sahpara village of Pangsha upazila, Rajbari.

The gharial is being taken to the Forest Department in Dhaka this morning.

The endangered reptile was at the hands of the fishermen for a long time who were trying to sell it unlawfully. But a local teacher posted on Facebook to rescue it.

The gharial was later rescued with the help of the Forest Department officials.

M Arafat Rahaman, president of Tram for Energy and Environmental Research (TEER) and Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation Federation (BBCF), in a Facebook post said, "With the sincere and fast intervention of the Forest Department, it has been possible to rescue the endangered gharial. The baby gharial baby is being taken to the Forest Department Agargaon, Dhaka today. And it will be kept with another gharial in the safari park."
