UP elections underway in Cox’s Bazar
22 candidates are contesting in 6 union councils of 4 upazilas
By-polls for different posts opened in 6 union councils in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning.
A total of 22 candidates are running for the posts of chairman, reserved woman councillor and general councillor.
Voting started at 9am and will continue until 4pm in 34 polling centres.
Cox’s Bazar District Officer Md Shahadat Hossain said: “Election materials were sent to the respective election centres before Wednesday evening.”
The local administration has taken every measure to ensure a free and fair election.
The Election Commission has appointed three judicial magistrates and eleven executive magistrates for the polling stations.
“Their appointment is to avoid unpleasant situations like theft of ballot during the polls,” said Shahadat.
A huge number of law enforcers have been deployed to maintain law and order in the polling centres.
Additional law enforcers and magistrates have been deployed in Fashiyakhali village of Chakaria and Hnila of Teknaf, where the fear of unpleasant situations is the highest.
