SSC, HSC exams hinge on Covid situation: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dipu Moni said that the government will decide on holding this year's SSC and HSC examinations after observing the coronavirus situation in the country.

Meanwhile, alternative arrangements are also under consideration if exams with even a shortened syllabus aren't possible due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We are trying to conduct SSC and HSC exams of 2021 with a brief syllabus, however, alternative arrangements are under consideration if that doesn't work," she said at a press briefing today.

In the face of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, the government shut all educational institutions on 17 March last year to contain the spread of the virus.

On 12 June, The education ministry extended the closure of the primary and higher secondary schools and colleges till 30 June, which was supposed to open on 13 June if the Covid-19 situation was favourable.

Last year, the SSC exams were held right before Covid-19 broke out in the country, while the HSC and equivalent examinations were in a limbo in the middle of the pandemic.

Later, the assessment results of higher secondary candidates were published based on their JSC and SSC results. This was the first time in the history of the country when 100% of the students were given pass scores.
