Weekly days off will be Friday and Saturday during Ramadan

The education ministry has decided that all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions will remain open till 20 April instead of 26 April.

Weekly days off will be Friday and Saturday during the month of Ramadan which was only Friday earlier.

The ministry took the decision in an emergency meeting on Monday after receiving an application from a group of teachers to increase the weekly days off during the month of Ramadan.

Universities were asked to follow the decisions of their respective academic council meetings.

On 28 March, the ministry instructed educational institutions to continue classes until 26 April to make up for learning losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic driven lengthy closure of educational institutions.

Usually educational institutions remained closed during Ramadan before the pandemic.

The government announced the closure of all educational institutions on 17 March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and after around 18 months, educational institutions were opened in September last year.

However, the government on 21 January this year announced the closure of educational institutions once again, which lasted till 21 February.

On 19 March, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Md Zakir Hossain, said primary schools in the country will remain open until April 20 during Ramadan.
