Teachers and students of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute are staging demonstration and formed human chain protesting the physical assault on their principal Farid Uddin Ahmed.
They are staging protest from early Sunday blocking the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in front of the institute.
The students are protesting to press their six points demand including ensuring overall safety on the campus, arresting the culprits who attacked Farid Uddin and providing exemplary punishment to the attackers.
They have also threatened the movement will be continued till their demands are met.
Meanwhile, law enforcers took 25 students to police station for interrogation after a case was filed on Saturday over the incident. Of them, five students were shown arrest in the case while rest are being interrogated.
In addition, Chhatra League's Mahanagar committee suspended the committee of Chhatra League's Polytechnic Institute wing. The committee also recommended the expulsion of Kamal Hossain Sourav, joint general secretary of the polytechnic branch Chhatra League.
Bangladesh Polytechnic Institute formed a three-member investigation team while Rajshahi Metropolitan Chhatra League also formed another six-member probe team to investigate the incident.
Teachers of the institute have also placed 3-point demand. The demands are arresting all the culprits involved in the incident within 24 hours, lifetime expulsion of the involved people and suspending of student politics for the time being on the campus.
A group of alleged Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute threw the institute's principal into a pond on Saturday for not complying with their illegal demand to sit for an examination.
