“We have achieved about 100 percent enrollment in primary education and reduced dropout at all levels. Presently, we are focusing on quality education,” the Education Mininster said.

Education Minister, Dr Dipu Moni, on Wednesday said her Ministry is working tirelessly to ensure quality education from primary to tertiary level in the country.

"We have achieved about 100 percent enrollment in primary education and reduced dropout at all levels. Presently, we are focusing on quality education," she added.

The Minister spoke at an event marking the formation of a new committee of the Education Reporters' Association, Bangladesh (ERAB), and ERAB's award ceremony for best reporting, held in the conference hall of the International Mother Language Institute.

The Minister attended the event through a virtual platform.

"There are no parallels between syllabus and reality. So, we are working on modifying the syllabus at all levels," Dipu Moni said.

"Our education is entirely exam-centric. It puts the students, as well as their guardians, under tremendous pressure, which is harmful. Everyone is in competition to get GPA-5. The purpose of education should not be just to earn certificates, rather it should be made more enjoyable for learners."

It is important for the teachers to have financial security and respect, the Minister commented, adding that "if we can boost teachers' confidence and equip them with good training, we can expect a good future generation."

Three reporters have been awarded ERAB Best Reporting Award 2020 -

Shariful Alam Sumon of Daily Kalerkontha, Solaiman Salman of Daily Sun and Saif Sujon of Daily Bonikbarta.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Md Jakir Hossain; Senior Secretary to Primary and Mass Education Ministry, Akram-al-Hossain; Secretary (Technical and Madrasa Division) to Education Ministry, Aminul Islam Khan; President of Jatiya Press Club, Saiful Alam, and Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Prof Syed Golam Faruk addressed the event, among others.

ERAB President, Sabbir Newaz, presided over the event, while its Secretary, Shariful Alam Sumon moderated it.
