No final exams up to class 3 from 2021

Students of classes 1, 2 and 3 will not be required to take annual examinations from 2021, but their evaluation will continue round the year, said Akram Al Hossain, secretary of the Primary and Mass Education Ministry.

The secretary made the announcement at a press conference to mark International Literacy Day 2019 in the ministry office on Thursday.

Under the existing academic system, students of these classes need to take several examinations, including a final test, to complete an academic year. 

The ministry took the decision following a recent directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to abolish exams for students of the aforementioned classes.

“Students of classes IV and V will need to take exams as before,” the secretary said.

There are 65,593 government primary schools with 6,609,907 students across the country. There are also 68,618 private primary schools catering to 2,189,126 students in the country.
