Nine teachers named IPDC-Prothom Alo Priyo Shikkhok

IPDC Finance Limited and the Daily Prothom Alo have jointly organised the second edition of 'Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona' programme to recognise the extraordinary contribution of school-level teachers across the country.

This year, nine teachers were named as Priyo Shikkhok at the award giving ceremony of IPDC-Prothom Alo Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona 2020 programme held on Saturday last, said a media statement.

Mominul Islam, managing director of IPDC Finance; Motiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo; Professor Mohammad Kaykobad; Professor HM Jahirul Haque, vice chancellor of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh; Professor Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, vice chancellor of United International University; Anisul Hoque, author and deputy editor of Prothom Alo, were present at the award giving ceremony.

The speakers expressed their appreciation for creating an event to honour primary and secondary level school teachers.  

The teachers who were named as Priyo Shikkhok this year are Afrooz Jahan Begum (Mymensingh Agricultural University High School); Shahnaz Kabir (SV Government Girls' High School, Kishoreganj); Faiz Ahamed (Kahariaghona Government Primary School, Cox's Bazar); and Karima Khanom (Damur Huda Govt Primary School, Chuadanga);

Besides, Md Abdur Rashid (Jhikargacha Govt ML Model High School, Jashore); Md Zamiul Karim (Pirijpur Maddhomik School, Rajshahi); Rahima Khatun (Auliabad Mazar Dakhil Madrasha, Tangail); Md Abul Hossain (Cumilla Modern School); and Debi Rani Das (Brahmanbaria Gokarna Pashchim Government Primary School) were also named as Priyo Shikkhok.     

This initiative was first organised in 2019 to establish a stronger societal honour of primary and secondary level school teachers and their contribution to the society.

This year's Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona was inaugurated through a virtual ceremony to celebrate the 'International Teachers Day' on 5th October, last year.

Like last year, all Bangladeshi nationals, aged 18 years or above, were able to nominate his or her primary or secondary level school teachers as a 'Priyo Shikkhok'. The nominated teachers' age must be at least 40 and can be actively teaching or retired. A nominee could submit up to three nominations.
