International engineering conference held in Chattogram

A two-day international conference titled "Research and Innovation in Civil Engineering" was concluded in Chattogram city on Saturday.

Southern University Bangladesh's Department of Civil Engineering arranged the conference at Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB).

Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, vice-chancellor of University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), was present as the chief guest on the concluding session.

During the two-day conference, a total of 48 research papers had been presented on Structural, Earthquake, Geotechnical and Foundation, Traffic and Transportation, Water Resources, Flood Control and Mitigation, Environmental, Materials Engineering, Construction and Management, Urbanization and Build Environment, Advances in Civil Engineering Education.

Major General Abu Sayeed Md Masud, Prof Willian E Kelly and Md Shamim Akther presented three key note speeches respectively on 'Reality of Padma Bridge: Creation of Technical, Social and Economic Opportunity', 'Sustainable Development' and 'Building Design and Construction'.

On Friday, Chairman of IEB Civil Engineering Division Engineer Habibur Rahman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The conference was presided over by Prof Engineer Mozammel Hoque, Advisor to Civil Engineering Department of the university.

Prof Sarwar Jahan, initiator and founder of the university, pro-vice chancellor professor Engineer M Ali Ashraf and dean of Science and Engineering Prof Dr Sharifuzzaman also addressed the conference.
