Students displayed their creative ideas in the ‘HGC Renaissance Carnival 2020’ held on the college campus in the capital.

A model of a 'Corona research centre Bangladesh' drew a lot of attention from participants and visitors at a three-day-long festival held at SOS Hermann Gmeiner College (HGC) Dhaka.

Aiaz, a student of class-IV at the college, built the model research centre using paper, amid the outbreak of the coronavirus infection.

Many other students also exhibited their creative ideas in the 'HGC Renaissance Carnival 2020' held on the college campus in the capital.

In the 14th festival, the college arranged 26 events from March 12 to 14 this year where 60 other educational institutions also participated. The participation of juvenile and young competitors created a festive mood on the college campus.

"The events at the carnival include a photography exhibition, debate, short film exhibition, Physics and Math Olympiad, international relations quiz, art exhibition, anime quiz, on-spot cartooning and a mobile game competition", said Mirza Ashea Islam, a prefect of  the college.

"The class I to XII students of the college and the class VI-XII students of other institutions participated in the festival", she added.

Tasmim Eusufzai, a teacher of Physics and also the convener of the carnival, said, "Co-curricular activities are a must for students in our college. Alongside acquiring academic knowledge, debate, cultural activities and science competitions help them develop a progressive mind."

"The whole event was organised by our students. They do it every year, and it helps them improve their leadership skills and increase their organising capacities," she said.

The prize-giving ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon on the college campus.

Joint secretary Md Nazrul Islam was the chief guest while Hermann Gmeiner College principal Professor Taslim Uddin was the special guest. The general secretary of the Bangladesh Photography Society, Tonmoy Dash, was among others present in the closing ceremony.

The Business Standard was the media partner of the carnival while Bisk Club Hatrick biscuit was the event partner.
