A female researcher has been selected for the first time since the UGC professorship was introduced
Renowned researcher and a retired teacher of Dhaka University Professor Haseena Khan has been selected as "UGC Professor" by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.
Haseena Khan was elected as an UGC professor for the next two years at a meeting of the Ugc Professor Selection Committee chaired by UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah on Wednesday.
Her tenure as the UGC professor will start from her joining date.

Professor Haseena Khan was a teacher at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dhaka University.
The Swadhinata Padak (Independence Award) winning scientist was directly involved in the discovery of the mystery of gene of Hilsa fish and the gene pattern of jute.
According to the UGC professorship policy, the prestigious post is awarded to retired eminent researchers. UGC professors get the same benefits as a selection grade professor gets. UGC professors can conduct researches after getting affiliated with any university or research institution of their choice.
Professor Haseena Khan will be affiliated with the Dhaka University to conduct research activities.
