Five teachers of the University of Dhaka have been sacked for not joining work after completion of their study leave abroad.

Three of them are associate professors, one is assistant professor and the other is lecturer.

The Associate Professors are Muhammad Mujibul Kabir of Finance Department, Dr Mosammet Asma Jahan of Accounting and Information System Department, and Md Sohel Samsuzzaman of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department.

The Assistant Professor is Sanwar Uddin Ahmed of Mathematics Department, and the lecturer is Ayesha Jaman of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department.

The university authorities have also fired two staff members – one for raping a colleague's daughter and the other for irregular presence in the office.

The university administration took the decision at a syndicate meeting on Wednesday night with Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

Akhtaruzzaman told The Business Standard that the teachers broke the deal with the university by not joining work after leave.

"That is why the syndicate has sacked them. We will not tolerate any irregularities in the university in the future," he said.

Staffer of engineering department Ajit Chandra Boumik was fired for raping the daughter of a colleague while the syndicate sacked Md Kamruzzaman for his irregular presence in the office.
