CU places TK 346.30 crore budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year

Chittagong University (CU) has announced its annual budget of Tk346.30 crore for the 2020-21 fiscal year, with only 1.24 percent allocation for research work.

CU acting registrar SM Monirul Hasan, on Sunday, made the announcement of the budget at the 32nd senate meeting held at AR Mallick Bhaban on campus, presided over by Professor Dr Shireen Akhter, Vice Chancellor of the university.

Of the budget, the highest expenditure of Tk222.20 crore has been earmarked for salaries and other allowances for the teachers and employees, Tk4.20 crore for research work which is only 1.24 percent of the total budget, and Tk3.50 crore for transportation, SM Monirul Hasan, acting registrar of CU, said.

The budget of Tk346.30 crore was approved against the demand of Tk541.13 crore of the university. Of this, the University Grant Commission (UGC) will give Tk329.80 crore and Tk16.50 crore will come from the university's own income.

 The remaining Tk5.55 crore has been mentioned as deficit. 

At the same time, the Senate approved the revised budget of Tk335.65 crore for the last 2019-20 fiscal year.

Senate members, syndicate members, registrar (acting), proctor (acting), and invited guests were, among others, present at the budget session.
