Buet expels 9, suspends 17 students from dorms for ragging

The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) administration on Thursday expelled nine students and suspended another 17 to different terms from dormitories for their involvement in ragging.

The nine expelled students are - Mobassher Hossen Shanto, ASM Mahadi Hasan, Soumyasachi Das Dibya, Somitra Lahiri, Plabon Chowdhury, Hasan Rafin, Nahid Ahmed, Arnab Chowdhury and Md Forhad Hossain.

The decision came from Buet's Board of Residence and Discipline and the students are from Suhrawardy and Ahsan Ullah halls of the university.

Professor Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students Welfare, told The Business Standard that a probe committee recently found those students' involvement in ragging.

He added that the Buet administration expelled nine students after the probe report was submitted.
