Brac University organised a virtual orientation program for the Summer-2020 semester on Saturday.
The event is traditionally hosted on the Residential Campus in Savar, said a press release.
It was successfully turned into a virtual orientation, which was attended by about 80% of the freshmen.
Brac University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang welcomed the freshmen in his speech.
"This will be a challenging start into academia for many students. With our online learning platform buX and the Student Assistance Fund, we hope to make the remote learning experience at Brac University as smooth as possible," he said.
He encouraged the students to turn challenges into opportunities during these difficult times of the Covid-19 crisis, and he shared his experiences when he started university.
The programme was opened with the university anthem. It was followed by a tribute to the founder of Brac University, late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, who passed away on December 20, 2019.
Opening remarks were made by Abdullah R. Chowdhury, proctor of the university.
The students were given an overview of the university via screened presentations.
Brac University Alumnus Rafiath Rashid Mithila, head of Early Childhood Development programme in BRAC International, spoke at the event.
The department heads as well as the faculty members also attended this virtual orientation.
