From now on, the non-government educational institutions also have to enroll students through lottery.

According to a notice issued by Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Saturday, the date of application and lottery will be fixed by the institution itself.

In organising the lottery draw, the notice says, the institutions must follow some conditions set by the education ministry.

"The lottery draw must be telecast on facebook live, or any other social sites.

"Presence of government's supervision committee on admission; institution's admission supervision committee; guardians; managing committee members and teachers' representatives must be ensured.

"The date of lottery draw must be informed to the government supervision committee on admission in advance.

"The fee of application will be Tk150.

Earlier on Friday, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued another notice that fixed 30 December for lottery.

It reads, the admission process into government high schools in the capital will begin from 15 December this year, and the process will be carried out through a lottery system from Class I to Class IX.

Meanwhile, education ministry sources said students will only be able to apply for admission into government schools online, and a special software will be used for the lottery process.

There are 39 government secondary institutions in Dhaka with 11,500 seats. The catchment area will be 50% instead of 40%. In the case of cluster-based admission, each student will be able to select five schools in the lottery.
