DU accommodation crisis: Students protesting in front of VC’s house
Students of Dhaka University (DU) gave an ultimatum to Vice-Chancellor (VC) M Akhtaruzzman to solve the ongoing accommodation crisis in the dormitories within 15 days.
As the authorities failed to solve the problem within the given time, more than a dozen of students staged a sit-in demonstration this morning in front of the VC's residence on the campus.
Obstructed by the members of proctorial body, they could not enter into the house. However, they blocked the main entrance.
On October 2, the students threatened to take shelter at DU VC's residence if he fails to find any solution to the crisis.
"The VC did not take any initiative to meet our demand," Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, a member of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) told The Business Standard.
"Many of the students are leading inhumane life in the common rooms. The students involved with politics takes the advantage of the crisis." Tanbir added.
Tanbir also said, "Authorities should not admit new students without solving the current accommodation problem."
DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman did not receive phone even after repeated attempts for comment on the issue.
