7 hurt as police baton charge on students’ protest in Netrokona 

At least eight people, including a journalist, were injured as police baton charged on a protest of National University students in Netrokona today.

Students of Netrokona Government College and other district level educational institutions formed a human chain to press home their five-point demands, including the reopening of educational institutions and holding of all the postponed exams in the shortest time.

They also gave an ultimatum of 72 hours. 

Later, the protesting students brought out a procession and marched towards the deputy commissioner's office after the human chain. 

However, police intercepted them near Moktarpara area and baton charged to disperse the students. Seven students and a journalist were injured during the scuffle with police.

The dispersed students gathered again and reached the deputy commissioner officer. They demanded justice for the police action.

Meanwhile, the National University authorities announced new schedules for all postponed examinations. All the postponed examinations will be taken as per the revised schedule from 24 May.

Earlier on 22 February, the National University authorities postponed all sorts of examinations until further notice.

On the same day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government has decided to reopen the public and private universities on 24 May. The residential halls of public universities will be reopened on 17 May.
