39 applicants for each DU seat

The upcoming Dhaka University (DU) admission test will have 276,391 candidates vying for 7,118 seats under five units, creating a seat-contender ratio of 1:39. The DU administration revealed the details on Monday, the closing day to apply for admission under 2019-20 session.

The university admission office sources said as many as 88,970 admission seekers applied for 1,795 seats under “Ka” unit — only for science students.  

In “Kha” unit, only for humanities students, 45,003 admission seekers applied against some 2,378 seats. In “Ga” unit, for commerce students, 28,958 students applied against some 1,250 seats.

“Gha” unit, also known as the combined unit open for all students, as many as 97, 464 students have applied for 1,560 seats. The number of applicants in “Cha” unit, for fine arts students, is 15,996 while the unit has 135 seats.

The entry test will begin on September 13 through the admission exam for “Ga” unit. Examinations for “Cha” unit will be held on September 14, “Ka” unit on September 20, “Kha” unit on September 21 and “Gha” unit on September 27.

The admission seekers will have to take part in 75 marks MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) test and 45 marks written examination. 

Earlier, there was no written examination in the admission test. It was only 120 marks MCQ test.

The students will get 50 minutes for written test and 40 minutes for MCQ examination. In the written test, the students will have space for answers in the question paper.

A student taking DU entry test has to go through an assessment of a total of 200 marks. Of these, 120 marks are apportioned to tests while the remaining 80 marks are for achieved Grade Point Average (GPA) in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

A total of 50 marks is fixed for HSC exam result and 30 for SSC exam result.
