The students of the Dhaka University on Tuesday continued demonstrations for a third consecutive day seeking cancellation of affiliation of seven colleges with the university.
Protestors put academic and administrative buildings under lock and key in the morning and brought out a procession on the campus.
Earlier on Sunday, the students declared to boycott all academic activates for an indefinite period to press home their demand.
“Our protest will continue until the demands are met,” said Shakhil Mia, a spokesperson for the demonstrators.
The demands include cancelation of the seven government colleges' affiliation from the running session, digitalisation of administrative activities and publishing results of all examinations within two months.
The university authorities are yet to take any decision with Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman travelling abroad.
“We cannot take any decision without the vice-chancellor. He is coming today (Tuesday) and will hold a meeting at night,” said Pro-VC Professor Mohammad Samad.
“We will find a better solution to solve the problem,” he told The Business Standard.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, has submitted a memorandum to the VC seeking a peaceful solution to the ongoing protest.
BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon told The Business Standard that they want a congenial atmosphere on the campus.
“The students of seven affiliated colleges are our fellows,” he said. “We do not want any harm to them.”
Earlier on July 16, the students of seven colleges staged protests at Nilkhet intersection yards away from the DU campus to press home their four-point demand.
The demands include promoting 2017-18 academic session students to their second year at colleges, re-evaluating the exam papers to prevent the failure of a large number of students, processing an easier re-examination system, and publishing the results within three months.
Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College were affiliated with the Dhaka University on February 18 in 2017.
As per the decision, DU should conduct all activities of the colleges, including admission process, holding of examinations and developing syllabuses.
