DU admission test begins with ‘Ga’ unit

The admission test of "Ga" unit for academic session 2019-20 under the Business Studies Faculty of Dhaka University (DU) was held today. 

The test started at 10am and concluded at 11am. 

A total of 29,058 students participated in the test for 1,250 seats at 56 centres in and outside the campus. That means around 23 admission seekers are fighting for a seat in the "Ga" unit. 

No incident of irregularities was reported this year so far. 

Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, told The Business Standard the atmosphere in the exam centres was peaceful during the admission test. 

"I hope that the rest of the admission tests will be held in a good manner and without facing any problem," he said. 

It will take some days to publish the results as we took the written test this year, said Professor Golam Rabbani, proctor of the university.

Examinations for "Cha," "Ka," "Kha" and "Gha" units will be held on September 14, 20, 21 and 27 respectively.

The university admission office sources said as many as 88,970 admission seekers applied for 1,795 seats under "Ka" unit which is only for science students.  

In the "Kha" unit, which is only for humanities students, 45,003 admission seekers applied against some 2,378 seats. 

The "Gha" unit, also known as the combined unit open for all students, as many as 97, 464 students have applied for 1,560 seats. The number of applicants in "Cha" unit, which is for fine arts students, is 15,996 while the unit has 135 seats.

The admission seekers will have to take part in 75-mark MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) test and 45-mark written examination. In earlier tests, the applicants only needed to appear in a 120-mark MCQ test.

The students will get 50 minutes for the written test and 40 minutes for the MCQ examination. In the written test, the students will have space for answers in the question paper.

A student taking DU entry test has to go through an assessment of a total of 200 marks. Of these, 120 marks are allocated to tests while the remaining 80 marks are for the achieved Grade Point Average (GPA) in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

A total of 50 marks are fixed for the HSC exam result and 30 for the SSC exam result.
