The occupiers constructed illegal establishments in order to possess the land

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) evicted illegal occupiers and recovered 242 decimals of land under its jurisdiction on Thursday. The occupiers had constructed illegal structures like bus counters and rickshaw garages in order to possess the land.

A DSCC mobile court conducted the drive near Kamalapur stadium under ward 7 to remove the illegal establishments, according to a press release.

During the drive, a total of eight bus counters including those of Ena Paribahan, Star Line, Royal Paribahn, Lal Sobuj Paribahan, Dream Line, Himachal Paraibahan and two unnamed ones, a rickshaw garage, several makeshift shops, and many other illegal structures were demolished, it adds.

The DSSC Executive Magistrate A HIrfan Uddin Ahmed led the drive.

He said, "Because of an announcement on Wednesday – that all illegal establishment will be removed – many people closed their establishments or removed their belongings before our operation began."

"Despite that, we demolished other illegal establishments including eight bus counters and a rickshaw garage and recovered the land from being illegally occupied," he added.

Russel Sabrin, chief property officer of the DSCC said that Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh visited the Brahman Chiron area beside the Kamalapur stadium on 30th September, and ordered the removal or demolition of illegal structures there.
