DSCC moves to free Shyampur Canal from waste

The Waste Management Department of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has started removing waste from Shyampur Canal under its jurisdiction.
The waste disposal authority is carrying out the operation in association with the DSCC's Engineering Department and Property and Mechanical Divisions, said a press release on Friday.
Meanwhile, the cleanup of waste in Dhanmondi Lake kicked off on 1 November which is still underway.
Under the directive of DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, waste removal from Shyampur Canal and cleanup drive in the area began yesterday.
The city authorities are carrying out the operation in a bid to create water flow in the dead canals that will help to control mosquitoes, which lay in clogged watercourses.
DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin supervised the drive at Shyampur Canal.
Regarding the cleanup in Dhanmondi Lake, Badrul Amin said: "We believe that those who walk and exercise beside the waterbody will be able to enjoy the benefits of the ongoing cleaning activities."
