Dhaka South claims the pictures regarding the culling are distorted and false and urges all to refrain from spreading such pictures

The pictures that are currently circulating on social media regarding the removal of stray dogs from the capital are misleading and fabricated, claims Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in a press release issued on Saturday.

The city corporation in the press release claims that they are not involved in the culling of the street dogs, so the pictures regarding the killing are distorted and false.

It urged individuals, groups, or organisations to refrain from spreading such pictures and requested people not to get distracted by this.

Besides, it warns that if the malpractice continues, the city corporation will be forced to take legal action against the perpetrators under the 'Digital Security Act 2018'.

Earlier this month, the city authorities started to relocate dogs from the capital's Dhanmondi and TSC area. These dogs are being given anaesthetic agents and later taken to the Matuail landfill area.

There's been widespread criticism among animal welfare activists regarding the city corporation's approach.

The Business Standard contacted Rubaiya Ahmed, founder of Obhoyaronno, a leading animal welfare organisation in Bangladesh, who said Obhoyaronno did not post any such pictures.

"These are old images that people are sharing and whenever we see any such pictures, we are personally asking individuals to stop circulating those," she continued.
She also said these images would create confusion and unnecessary panic.

Rubaiya, however, said that even though the false pictures were wrong, the organisation also did not support Dhaka South's initiative to relocate the strays.
