‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug dealer was killed in a gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Mymensingh on Sunday night.

The deceased Johnny Mia (26), had been a fugitive for a long time.

“On information of several drug dealers and robbers were staying at Char Puliyamari in Sadar upazila, a DB team conducted a drive in the area,” said District DB Officer-in-charge (OC) Shah Kamal Akand.

Sensing police presence the drug dealers open fired, forcing the police to retaliate. At one point, the criminals fled the scene.

Johnny was found bullet-hit and was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), where he succumbed to his wounds.

Police recovered 200gm heroin and a knife from the spot.

Johnny was charged in 11 cases including drug dealing and robbery.
