Don’t release Latif Siddiqui before Nov 11: SC

The Appellate Division ordered authorities concerned not to release former textile and jute minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui from jail before November 11 in a graft case.  

A full bench of the Appellate Division led by the Chief Justice Syed Mahmood Hossain set November 11 for the next hearing after hearing on plea to stay a High Court order that granted him 6-month bail to him on November 4.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan filed the plea on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to the case statement, on October 27, 2017, Aminul Islam, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission's Bogura district office, filed a case against two people, including Latif Siddiqui, for selling nearly two-and-a-half acres of land without a tender, alleging that this had resulted in a financial loss of Tk40.70 lakh.

Latif Siddiqui, on June 20, appeared in a Bogura court to appeal for bail. The bail, however, was not granted.
