The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has found Aedes mosquito larvae in 691 establishments after inspecting around 1.31 lakh establishments including houses and construction sites during a 10-day drive conducted to protect city residents from the dengue mosquito-borne disease.

The drive started from August 8 and ended on Thursday, reads a press release by the DNCC.

The corporation also found an environment suitable for the breeding of Aedes mosquitos in 77,332 houses and under-construction buildings during the drive.

So far, the DNCC mobile court has realised more than Tk10 lakhs as fines. The establishment owners concerned were fined Tk73,000 in nine cases on the last day of the drive on Thursday.

"During the drive, all possible Aedes mosquito breeding grounds have been cleaned and pesticides have been sprayed and the people have been asked to be vigilant in this regard," reads the press release.

It was the third drive to prevent dengue in 10 zones of the DNCC.
