Youth stabbed to death during salish in Chattogram
Locals catch one person allegedly involved in the incident and hand him over to police
A young man was stabbed to death on Saturday during a salish (a village meeting of arbitration) in Char Lakshya union under Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram.
Locals caught one person allegedly involved in the incident and handed him over to police.
The deceased was identified as Ariful Islam Dovash, 21, a son of Ahmed Hossen from Karnaphuli upazila.
Eyewitnesses said a theft incident took place in the room of one Mohammad Selim in Char Lakshya on April 22. The stolen goods were recovered from the house of his next-door neighbour – Mohammad Kaiser – one day later.
A salish was held on Saturday morning to resolve the issue. At one point, both the parties engaged in a heated argument. Later, Kaiser stabbed Dovash in the throat.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Bandar Zone) Arefin Jewel said one person has been arrested over the incident.
"We are trying to arrest the others involved. Preparations are underway to file a case," he added.
