The employees of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital (BBMH), under the University of Science and Technology Chittagong have formed a human chain on Tuesday in protest of dismissing 34 employees including 19 nurses.

Around 700 workers and employees from different labour organisation including the hospital and university participated in the human chain.

Earlier on April 8, the organisation issued a notice informing the termination of 19 nurses, and 15 cleaners.

The human chain was presided over by University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) Employees Union President Manik Mia, while it was addressed by Anwar Hossain, president of Bangladesh Labour Federation, USTC Employee Union General Secretary Md Solaiman, among others.

"The authorities fired a total of 34 employees of Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital without caring any rules and regulations," Manik Mia told The Business Standard.

Though we protested the matter several times, we are yet to receive any satisfactory reply from them, he added.
